Is Braveheart appropriate for a 13 year old? ›

The battle scenes are intense and graphic, and there are several sex scenes with nudity. Parents should really give this one a viewing before allowing their teens to watch it, as it greatly depends upon your child, and your own opinions on what they should see.

Sex scenes between Wallace and his doomed wife and with a consenting princess. There's some nudity in the form of female breasts and male backsides. Expect torture, hackings, stabbings, throat-slitting, and arrows and spears dealing horrible death and injuries.

There is slashing and stabbing throughout and the blunt ends of weapons are often used. Multiple men are hit on the head/face. Sometimes heads and limbs are very quickly chopped off with some blood. In a few scenes, men are shot with arrows and horses and riders are thrown and killed.

Two kissing scenes clearly leading to sex and one attempted rape scene. In the first few minutes we see several people hung by nooses. As for violence, several scenes show people being killed by swords, fists, rocks, ball and chains, etc., you see the weapon of choice and then ClearPlay filters the actual incident.

How many horses died in the filming of this movie? None, although the scenes of horses being wounded were so real it is said that Mel Gibson was investigated by an animal welfare organization.

What makes this movie so intense is the passion of the main character: Scottish rebel leader William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, who put his heart and soul into this performance. Definitely not a film for young ones - make sure that whatever their age, your kids are mature enough to appreciate this film for it's message and not just revel in the violence.

Mel Gibson initially turned down the role of William Wallace, feeling that he was too old for the part (Gibson was 38 at the time, while the real Wallace died at 35) , but Paramount Pictures would finance the film only if Gibson starred in it, so he agreed.

It's not like any 13 year old can even watch the movie as it is R rating. Rather than trying to get this PG-13, the director fails. There are films that make these bad actions look cool that are rated PG-13.

Mature topics, not for young teens

Eden has incredibly unhealthy coping habits and the whole story is very disturbing and sad. Themes are very mature. there's also an age-gap relationship shown briefly.

I wouldn't want my teen age kids to watch this show, it is funny and it's intelligent,but i hate that they disappoint by using the sex theme all the time! Kids and teenagers are much more than that! This title has: Too much sex.
