Blizzard Entertainment is having a lot to celebrate lately, and Overwatch 2 is celebrating with a month of special events, returning game modes, free rewards, and more. In honor of World of Warcraft's 20th anniversary, an impressive crossover event is coming to Overwatch 2, including special legendary skins for some of the popular characters. Additionally, Overwatch 2 is also having an anniversary to celebrate, with even more events coming to the game with past fan-favorite game modes rotating weekly for a month.
Celebrating 20 years of World of Warcraft is a pretty big deal, and as the most well known MMORPG, it is no surprise that other games from the same company will hop into the party. The first-person shooter, Overwatch 2, will be spreading some of the excitement to its players with several special challenges that provide free in-game World of Warcraft-themed rewards, as well as some new character skins available in the shop. Completing the challenges during the event will take some doing, but then players will be able to show off their pride for the Alliance or Horde.
The realms of Azeroth and Future Earth are blending during this crossover event, with the above trailer announcing the news as though it was being seen from aboard a ride at Blizzardworld in Overwatch 2. Of course, what better place to host a birthday party than at an amusement park?
Some Overwatch 2 Characters Are Gaining Legendary WoW Themed Skins
Available In The Shop From September 17 to the 30th
Collecting skins for characters is always a treat, and for WoW fans, this crossover is offering some well-known figures in the four new Legendary Skins. Note that there is no special advantage in gameplay for having these skins, as they are cosmetic only and are just meant as a fun celebration of World of Warcraft.
- Sylvanas Windrunner Widowmaker
- Lich King Reinhardt
- Thrall Zenyatta
- Diamond Magni Torbjorn

Overwatch 2 sheds more light on Season 12, providing players with insight into the new hero Juno, and the fast-paced action of the Clash game mode.
Overwatch 2 players can purchase the Mega bundle of all four skins for 5700 Overwatch coins, which also includes some unique emotes, weapon charms, sprays and more. If that is a bit too expensive, or players want to focus on a specific character only, bundles for each of the characters can be purchased separately which include the skins as well as relevant titles, emotes, and more.
A Symmetra Sin'Dorei skin and a Doomfist Blackhand skin are also available in the Shop for even more World of Warcraft looks.
It is an interesting choice for the four skins, particularly because Anduin, the King of Stormwind, is missing from the collection. Magni is a solid stand-in, however, particularly as he is featured prominently in the current WoW expansion, The War Within. Thrall seems to have lost a bit of weight and muscle mass, but for an attempt of Zenyatta cosplaying as Thrall, it is impressive.
Ten Free Rewards Will Be Offered In Overwatch 2's Crossover Event With World Of Warcraft
Available During The Event Until September 30th
Alongside the cosmetics that are in the in-game Shop for purchase, players can also earn many rewards by simply playing Overwatch 2 and completing special challenges that are available until September 30th. These began on September 17th, and are all fairly straightforward without needing anything special to complete. Sadly, most of the challenges cannot be earned by playing Custom Games, Hero Mastery or Practice vs AI and must instead be through standard PvP matches.
Challenge | Requirements | Rewards |
---|---|---|
Ding! | Complete 7 World of Warcraft challenges. |
|
By Fire Be Purged | Complete 30 games queued as Damage or All Roles. Wins grant double progress. |
|

Thankfully, for those players who are excited about earning the rewards, winning a match can give twice the progress points towards completing the challenge, but is not a mandatory requirement. Therefore, even if someone is consistently losing their games, they will still earn credit for the appropriate challenges. It will just not be doubled.
Overwatch 2 Is Also Having An Anniversary With Special Events For Three Weeks

Beginning on September 24, Overwatch 2 will have a month-long event bringing back some fan-favorite game modes from the past year. The first week of this event will happen simultaneously with the final week of the WoW event, and currently there is no official news on what the non-WoW rewards will entail.

10 Rarest Overwatch Skins You'll Probably Never Own
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the game is expressing one's style through unique cosmetics, but the rarest skins in Overwatch 2 take the cake.
It is interesting to note that September is actually not the official anniversary for either World of Warcraft or Overwatch 2, but presumably, this is the time that it worked out best on the calendar for the parties to happen. World of Warcraft has had a lot going on with the release of The War Within expansion, and is featuring many events to celebrate 20 years, with the official anniversary being November 23.
Meanwhile, Overwatch 2's anniversary event does cross over the anniversary of its early access release, which is October 4, 2022, despite the full launch of the game having happened on August 10, 2023. But, a party is always welcome, regardless of the exact dates.
